Patient information
Patient information
Your rights as a patient, how to raise a concern, and the practical details worth knowing before you book.
Your rights
As a patient in New Zealand you are protected by the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights. In short, you have the right to:
- Be treated with respect, and with your privacy, culture, values and beliefs respected
- Be free from discrimination, coercion, harassment and exploitation
- Dignity and independence
- Care of an appropriate standard
- Effective communication, in a form you understand
- Be fully informed, including about your options, risks and costs
- Make an informed choice and give informed consent
- Have a support person with you
- Rights in respect of teaching or research
- Complain, and have your complaint taken seriously
Consent
Before any assessment or treatment, Emma will explain what is proposed, why, the options, any risks, and the cost. You are welcome to ask questions, take time to decide, bring a support person, or say no at any point.
Children and young people
Children under 16 need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who will be asked to give consent for assessment and treatment. Young people are always included in the conversation about their own care.
Fees and ACC
Fees depend on the type of appointment, and any cost is explained before treatment begins. For an accepted ACC injury, ACC pays part of the cost and you pay a surcharge. If a claim is declined, standard private fees apply. See injury and ACC care for more.
Changing or cancelling an appointment
If you need to cancel or change an appointment, please give at least 24 hours' notice so the time can be offered to someone else. Call 07 242 4777 or email emma@espodiatry.co.nz.
Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed without notice, may be charged. ACC does not pay for missed appointments, so this also applies to ACC appointments. If something unexpected happens, such as illness or an emergency, please get in touch and it will be considered fairly.
Raising a concern
If something is not right, please say so. Most concerns are best sorted by talking directly with Emma, in person, on 07 242 4777 or by email at emma@espodiatry.co.nz. Your concern will be acknowledged in writing within 5 working days, and you will be kept informed about how it is being looked into. Raising a concern will not affect the care you receive.
