Injury and ACC care

ACC can help cover treatment for foot and lower limb injuries caused by an accident, including many sports injuries.

If your foot or lower limb problem is the result of an accident, ACC may help cover your treatment. Emma is a registered ACC provider, so you do not need a GP referral, and your injury can be assessed, the ACC claim lodged for you, and any cost explained before treatment.

How ACC works, in plain terms

ACC is New Zealand's no-fault accident insurance scheme. For an accepted injury it pays part of the cost of treatment, and you pay the rest as a surcharge or co-payment, which each clinic sets. If a claim is declined, standard private fees apply.

The steps

  • Come in for an assessment, no referral needed
  • Your injury is diagnosed and the ACC claim lodged for you
  • If accepted, you pay only the ACC surcharge for covered visits
  • Claims generally need to be within 12 months of the injury

What ACC may help with

Injuries such as ankle sprains, soft tissue injuries, and other foot and lower limb injuries from an accident may be eligible. Long-standing or wear-related problems are usually treated privately. You'll find out which applies to you.

ACC and orthoticsAs a registered ACC provider, Emma can lodge your claim directly. For some eligible injuries, orthotics or bracing can also be funded under the appropriate ACC claim.

Common questions

Do I need a referral for ACC podiatry?

No. You can come in directly, and your injury will be assessed and the ACC claim lodged on your behalf.

How much is the ACC surcharge?

ACC covers part of the cost and you pay a surcharge that the clinic sets. Any cost is always explained before treatment.

Is my problem an ACC injury?

If it came from an accident, it may be. Ongoing or wear-related problems usually are not. You'll find out at your assessment.
